Ever heard of the program GIMP? It is an image editing software, like photoshop, but free. It is under the GNU license so you can edit it any way you like. You can do so many things on it, it is unbelievable when you start- and I have started to make tutorials on how do do some pretty cool things on it. You can view them here.
